Unesco World Heritage List

On June 25th 2011 the monumental area with the monastic complex of S. Salvatore - S. Giulia, housing the City Museum, was registered in the Unesco World Heritage List with the network “The Longobards in Italy. Places of the power (568 - 774 AD)” also composed of Cividale del Friuli, Castelseprio, Spoleto, Campello sul Clitunno, Benevento and Monte Sant’Angelo.

City of Museums

The Brescia City Museum is housed in the historic premises of the Benedictine nunnery of San Salvatore and Santa Giulia. The Lombard church of San Salvatore, the Romanesque Santa Maria in Solario, the Nuns' Choir, the church of Santa Giulia and the Renaissance cloisters bear witness, together with Desiderius' cross set with gems, to the monastery's splendor during its life of more than a thousand years. The visitor to the City Museum at Santa Giulia can retrace 3000 years of history, illustrated by 12000 archaeological finds and works of art displayed in 14000 square meters of museum space.
